BigPondMovies Review |
Formerly called FetchmeMovies, the dog mascot has been reduced to a bit part woofer, but BigPondMovies is a BIG step up in making their service very attractive to first timers. You certainly can't fault their designer!
BigPondMovies is an Aussie based dvd rental company. Their site is indeed one of the top 3 I've browsed in terms of ease of use, speed and range of options.
DVD's are sent from Melbourne/Perth/Sydney/Brisbane. They offer a 'returned option', meaning you can state in your member page that you've sent a DVD back, and the following day they will send you another from your queue. Ideal for those who are living in areas where the post might take 2-4 days.

Sorry, but bigpond scores pretty low on my list, sure they have a great range (otherwise I wouldn't bother) but nearly impossible to get movies in the order you request (even when it states that it is available now). I don't like the new look website, I like to see the covers of the movies not just the description, it gives you a better idea if you may be interested in the movie or not. Turn around time is pretty good, but as the have so many members it is hard to get the new releases and a lot of their dvd's aren't in the best condition. |

I have used them for 2 years with generally very consistent results. I have been on the 3 out, 10 per month plan, and until recently have managed to turn around about 15 per month. The recent web page upgrade has caused some problems with dispatching and acknowledgement of returned DVD's, but I believe they will be sorted out and it will again become an excellent service. |

Quick turn-around, good customer service and a good collection of DVD's. An average looking website, and a few dud discs.. but overall, a good experience during the trial. Curious if it will continue as a paying member now.. |

Pros - relatively quick turnaround and big catalogue. Cons - frequent scratched discs, ordinary customer service, high priority discs seldom sent. Recently, some frustrating database issues where no discs were sent for 1-2 weeks. For residents of Syd/Melb/Bris/Perth, still worth tring. |

It is not true. It does not matter if you click the "returned" option. They will equally wait until the DVD has arrived to them. Next day they will ship a new DVD. This means that no matter how close you live to their physical location, you have a 2-day gap. For example, if you sent the DVD today, and it arrives on today+1, they ship a new DVD on today+2, and you will receive the DVD on todavy+4. This in the best case. |

So far so good (still on their 2 DVD free trial though). I've noticed that selecting the Returned box in the section With Me Now doesn't always prompt them to send out another DVD the next working day (worst has been 2 days). Website is better than others, but they need to work on their customer service I agree. |

As a subscriber for four months I would have given a better rating except for a problem I had recently. I received a DVD that I didn't order and emailed them to let them know about the problem but recieved no reply. Three weeks later and the movie that I was supposed to receive was still logged out under my name which meant that I was receiving three DVD's instead of four. Complaints via email were not answered. As a final resort I threatened to cancel my subscription if they didn't respond within a few days. Even after sending a message that I have cancelled, I have still not received any response. This is customer service at it's worst.
Also the wait for some titles was verrry looong. |
