This dvd rental service is unique in that they provide family edited dvd's. This is an ideal solution for households which in the past may have avoided renting good movies due to some unnecessary swearing, nudity or gore. Bear in mind that there are some movies they don't edit due to the actual nature and content of the movie.
Clean Films website is basic, but very easy to navigate. They also provide customers an option to buy edited movies.

CleanFilms WAS great. They're now out of business. an alternative to them though is ClearPlay. Http://www.clearplaydvd.com is their website. They sell a DVD player that auto-edits the movies you buy or rent for you! (like fast forwarding the parts you don't want to see but you can't even tell it's doing it) |

Clean Films just sent me the following "Going Out of Business" email, after I'd written a question to them about a lawsuit I heard they lost against Hollywood studios. They have indeed been put out of business. Apparently Hollywood has a right to proliferate profanity, but editing companies have to right to remove it. Read on ...

We apologize for having canceled your account. We have just lost a legal battle against several Hollywood producers and studios, and we have been forced to stop doing business by the end of August. Our attorneys have reached an understanding with the Hollywood studios allowing us to stay in business at least until September 1, and we should be able to continue shipping DVDs as normal until near that time.
We appreciate your support and suggestion regarding American Family Association. Unfortunately, we are not aware of anything that anyone can do to help us at this point.

I am so impressed with the editing as you cannot tell what has been left out unless you have seen the original. The movies retain all of their wit and story. I like the great selection and the fact that I can rent movies that I never would have rented because of language,sex,or violence.
However, I must say that as of late, their on-line service has been awful. The rentals come on time and they are what I ordered but to get to my queue must take an act of God because I loop around forever and cannot get any help when I ask for it on-line. I am still waiting two weeks after I sent an E-mail to customer service for help. |

Personally, I'd rather watch the nudity and the movie the way it was intended. However, from an objective view towards their service - they do have fine customer support, fast ship and delivery relative to their distance to me and a fair selection of popular titles. They don't have every thing out there by any means, and at times, I don't even know what they cut out from the movie unless I've seen the uncut version somewhere. The problem for me is the price , which of course I will not pay a premium for ,since I do want the full uncut movie. If they were the same price as BB, then I have no problem recommending them if you do want your movies edited.

These guys are great, but delivery times are SLOW. It would be nice if ALL movies everywhere were cleaned up for content so us decent folk were not discriminated against. That way I could rent stuff without seein nakkid wimmin. Its the movie sex that turns our kids into prostitutes and drug addics. Also cuz of public schools and rap music. I don't have cable. Thank God the FCC is looking at removing filth off cable TV so I will have reason to order it now. I have a right to see no female nipples cuz I have lousy reception and like to watch a lot of TV. God bless America. |

The shipping can be slow but the movies are wonderful. My wife and I really don't want to see any naked actors but we really did want to see Titanic. Cleanfilms sent us a copy of the movie that was just great and we didn't need to fast-forward, skip, or avert our eyes for any of it. If you don't think there is anything wrong with looking at naked actors, try Netflix. |

This site is for people who love movies, but hate all that golly gee darn cussing.
I was amazed that people who have such a lack of respect for films that they would edit them as they see fit to remove what they consider "offensive content" (whatever that is) would even try to start up a rental service.
This is for all the Tipper Gores of the world who want to outsourse that tiresome job of parenting and let other people/entities do it for them.
On top of the simple premise of the entire site being weak minded at best, the shipping times were very slow.
Overall, you could just join a GOOD rental-by-mail service that works for the entire family if you just keep this simple rule in mind:
Beauty and the Beast = Good for kids
Reservoir Dogs = Just for mommy and daddy
see? parenting isn't that hard. try it. |
