DVD Hype Review |

DVDHype is 'Canadas first online dvd rental store'. The site isn't overcrowded with information and has good browsing and search capabilities. DVDhype's site also has an in-depth knowledgebase should you ever need to find out more about their rental program or about buying dvd's from them.
The rental plan dvdhype offer is unique in that for the monthly fee of $25, depending on your location you could have 3,4 or 5 dvd's out at a time. An interesting approach, but when considering the size of Canada and the postal times it makes sense:
If you live in Montreal and surrounding area (post codes of H0-H9 or J3-J7) then you are allowed out 3 DVD's at a time.
If you live in the provinces of Quebec (outside post-codes above) or live in
Toronto, Ottawa and Vancouver with postal codes K-N, V2P-V7Z or V8K-V9Z then you can have 4 DVD's out at a time.
Live anywhere else? Have 5 DVD's out at any time.
They offer a free trial which is for 30 days. Note that your trial month will be charged at $14.95+tax but if you cancel it (and send all dvd's back) within the free trial period they will refund this money.
DVD's are posted from Montreal, Quebec.

Very slow to mail. Sure I get 4 DVDs out at a time but is it worth it when it takes a week to mail them there and a week for them to get new ones back to me?
Also, I can no longer update and cannot get an answer as Customer Service is not reading my questions and answering. Do they not have a phone number??? Cannot find one. I guess I will be hearing from them when I stop payment with my VISA!! |

Been with them since February 2004, good selection, easy to use web interface. Receiving discs seems to be taking longer and longer tho, CP problem most likely, sometimes discs take 12 (calendar) days to arrive! Overall I'd definately recommend them though. |

I've been subscribed for severals months. I'v got on average 9 dvd per months. Popular movies were always "out", so it take a long time to get those. So I decided to cancel my account. They continue to charged 28.57$ per month for 4 mouths now... I have to call Visa every month since then! Poor rating to Visa Desjardins too, that told me that the cannot block transactions from DVDHype. Is it like this with MasterCard? Beware, stay away from DVDHype! |

SIgned up for free trial period. It took 10 days to receive my first dvd. I cancelled my trial period and my credit card was still charged the full amount. After numerous attempts to contact them, they just ignored me. BEWARE!!! |

I have been a suscriber for 9 months. The service is not perfect but id does not deserve the bashing I have seen on different forums. Actually until novembre 2004 I was getting an average of 14 DVDs a month while on the 3 dvd program. Their selection of old titles is good. On some titles the waiting time is unacceptable. Since november though and I am not sure if it is their fault or Canada Post the delivery time has gone from an average od 2 days to 4 days. |

I haven't heard anyone recommend this company. I had a bad experience and so did a few others I've met on other forums. For my trial they sent me one title but never sent the others. They later said that my info was incorrect for billing but they were incorrect. Just like their free trial thingy is wrong. |
