MoviesForMe Review

MoviesForMe is a dvd rental company from canada. Their site isn't overcluttered and has a great browsing and renting method. Your rental queue can keep over 80 titles (thanks to Albie for correcting this) at a time.

Their rental plan is simple - you are allowed 3 DVD's out at a time for $25+tax per month. If you live outside Quebec/Ontario they will upgrade your account to 4 DVD's a month due most probably to the extra postal day the discs may take to get to your location.

A free trial is offered for 14 days to let you get a taste for moviesforme's service.

DVD's are sent from Quebec,Ontario.

MoviesForMe Customer Comments
Norman Lorrain from Red Deer on 2005-10-12 Rates them:
Completely irresponsible. I cancelled my account almost a year ago and I'm still seeing charges on my credit card. Customer service is non-existent. I've emailed, phoned, and not received any responses.

I'll be putton Visa on speed-dial as I cancel further charges.

Makes me question online purchases altogether.

Steven from Edmonton on 2005-09-23 Rates them:
As of September 22nd, 2005 Moviesforme.ca has posted that they are going out of business. As with many others I wish I had researched them better before being ripped off. Any current customers better contact their Credit company and have the charges (they keep charging even after going out of business) reversed. Buyer beware I guess is the lesson learned, I just get tired of scumbags like moviesforme taking advantage of good people.
Stephane from Quebec on 2005-08-25 Rates them:
Damn... smae thing for me. I started the free trial. Everything was going fine. I even received twice 4 movies the first two weeks.

I decided to continue with them. Now problems started to show. I've dropped from 8 movies a week to 1 to 3 movies a week. I've decided to stop my membership.
There is no CANCEL button on their web site so you have to call them.
There was a toll free number. I tried it but all I got is a message telling that the voicemail was full and that I would have to call back another day.
I've emailed them that I wanted to cancel... "we don't do that by email" they say... "you have to call us". bull shit!

finally it is cancelled but they charged me 3 months on my credit card even if i was a member for less than a month.

After calling VISA, i got a refund for a month... i'll try once more.

STAY AWAY FROM [MOVIES FOR ME]... THIEVES
mista from Richmond HIll on 2005-06-12 Rates them:
Cancelled 2 months ago. These bastards keep charging me 28 per month. I called them 3 times and they told me that they would fix the problem, but nothing ever happens. Stay away from these
scammers!!!
Phillip from Hamilton on 2005-05-31 Rates them:
Tried to cancel however they still billed my credit card.

Reversed most of the charges through VISA and filed a complaint with the ministry

I wish I'd seen this info before I signed up for their free trial last year, they have been stealing 26.70 from me every month since. Every time I contact them I get the same response, they say they will fix the problem but then they charge my card again. My suggestion is to run away as fast as you can from this company.
jf from Ottawa on 2005-05-15 Rates them:
As bad as it gets. NO CUSTOMER SERVICE. Fake toll free number: nobody gets through, always full. They keep on charging my credit card. They are bad and should not last long in this business. Stay away, I repeat, Stay away.
Cristy from Mississauga on 2005-04-26 Rates them:
They have WORST customer service I've ever experienced. Very HORRIBLE, TERRIBLE services. They keep charging my credit card even I have cancelled my TRIAL memership, finally I have to cancel my credit card. They promised to refund my money but never did. Good luck if you try to contact them by phone or online.
Jason from Coquitlam on 2005-04-11 Rates them:
They have great customer service. The only problem is if you join in December then you in trouble as there is too much Xmas mail competing with getting dvds on time.
Michael from Mississauga on 2005-04-06 Rates them:
Avoid them AT ALL COST even if it's free. They scam people of their money. I received only 1 DVD just 3 days before end of my TRIAL period, and they have charged me C$28.70 already. It's impossible to contact them via phone, fax, or email. Voicemail is always full. Worst customer service in the world. I've to cancel my VISA card to avoid further charges from them.
Travis from Nova Scotia on 2005-03-25 Rates them:
Just to update my situation with MoviesForMe.ca, about 6 months AFTER i canceled my account with them.. they are STILL charging my credit card every month!
I have to call Visa every month to get them to cancel the charge!
SCAM alert! SCAM alert!
Andrew from Toronto on 2005-02-22 Rates them:
I was subscribed with them for 3 months and I never got a new release even once. Their toll free number dumps you into a voicemail box that has been full since I started so you can't even leave a message never mind talk to anyone. I finally unsubscribed and returned all my movies which didn't stop them from billing me. AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE!
Travis from Nova Scotia on 2004-11-28 Rates them:
I had a HORRIBLE experience with this company.
Once I completed their free trial and wanted to quit, they made me jump through hoop after hoop. Even after doing everything they requested of me, I noticed a month later that they were STILL charging my credit card!
I called them up and complained about this, and they said they would stop. However, the next month they charged me again!
I have called Visa to try and get them to charge back the wrong charges, which worked for the time being, but the very next month they charged me AGAIN!!
This company is a SCAM! AVOID!
James from Vancouver Island on 2004-11-11 Rates them:
This company is a sham... I tried their free two week trial and was immediately unimpressed with every thing to do with this company, started with their poor quality web site, to the difficulties getting a hold of customer service from BC, to the very slow mail time to the west coast (5 days). I immediately sent all 4 movies I received back and they claim they never received one. I sent all movies back 4 days before cancelling, cancelled, and still had 10 days (according to their web site) for the last one to arrive. They can claim anything they like and claim you authorized the charges. I informed customer service of the problem, kept getting the run around for days. Then when they charged me $27 started getting very angry. The company must have some mechanism for dealing with lost mail. They will scam you with a "lost movie" if you cancel their free trial. AVOID "MOVIES FOR ME" LIKE THE PLAGUE.
Andrew from Belleville, ON on 2004-09-13 Rates them:
I was with them for 3 months but got frustrated when I wouldn't get any top 10 titles. When I phoned they told me to email them regarding the DVD's I wanted (well isn't that what the list is for!!!!). That worked for a few weeks.

I called back to cancel the membership, when I explained why they said they had the top movies I wanted. I still don't know why I didn't receive them.

It seems like these services will only send you the DVD's you want when you complain. Some way to operate a business.
Isobel from Vancouver on 2004-07-18 Rates them:
Poor customer service. It took them AGES to get back to me. You have to jump through hoops in order to get your account cancelled. If you live in BC, forget about receiving the DVDs in any meaningful time - it takes about a week. I advise everyone to stay away from this company.
Albie from Cantley, Quebec on 2004-07-18 Rates them:
The expanded queue is easier to manage (fill and forget) but don't count on getting very many top 10 titles.

I complained about only getting three titles and was upgraded to four. Customer Service is excellent.
