NicheFlix Review |
Nicheflix is a specialist US based dvd rental company. They have an attractive and fast-loading website with a variety of rental plans.
The focus and real selling point of their service is the genres they cover. They offer multi-region titles, many not available to buy in region 1. Also, they offer a high definition d-vhs rental plan. The genres covered include Asian (Japan, Korea, Hong Kong), European (french, german, italian, british etc), American films (including titles not released on region 1, special editions, superbit etc), horror, an excellent anime selection, cult tv and DVHS titles plus some other region version which might have better documentary/commentary not available in US.
Their free trial consists of 2 weeks free or 6 weeks for the price of 4.you a taste of their service. Price plans are decent. DVHS is shipped from Carmel, Indiana and takes longer than DVD shipping, ideal if you happen to live close to Indianapolis. Click here to Visit NicheFlix

Not that great. Half of the movies they "claim" to have--they DO NOT have in stock at all. Also, wait times are over a week. It sounds good, but forget it. |

I have been a loyal customer for 22 months and after the repeated delays and excuses I'm ready not to renew my monthly plan. I have read the reviews and I agree the amount of rare and international dvd selections are outstanding, yet nicheflix doesn't value customer satisfaction. The availability and wait times are horrible, nicheflix literally helps other rental companies corner the "niche" on a wonderful dvd marketing concept. |

Though they do have a nice selection of foreign titles, especially horror, good luck getting one of them. At one point during the month I had tried the service I think I had 15 discs in the queue and 11 of them had some sort of wait. It was insane. Another problem is the shipping time frames...TERRIBLE. At least one full week to get your disc and that is if it arrives at all. The last to that were sent never showed up. When I emailed them I was told it was probably delayed because of the holiday season. IT WAS THE FIRST WEEK IN NOVEMBER. I think if they can get it together it would be a good service but for now don't waste your money. |

This is a service for foreign film buffs.
I joined to get UK & AUS titles that will never be available in the US.
This is not a major company, I suspect it's how the owner makes his hobby/habbit pay. I have been with them since 11/04. Durning the winter I got 6-7 discs a month, when spring hit it jumped to 9-10 per month ( I guess it's weather related). I have never had a unplayable disc & only one that was damaged.
Check their catalog, if the material interests you join, you will obtain titles that will never be at your local video store or on a major service. |

First shipment of dvds was quick, as is expected. It's been over three weeks since joining Nicheflix and I've ONLY dvds have been shipped. Their website alledges that 3 dvds were shipped out...that was 11 DAYS AGO. After 6 days I e-mailed them, and their reply is that 6 days wait is "not uncommon". What kind of turnaround expectation is that??
Two more e-mail were sent after 7 days, and still no reply from Nicheflix. Their promo offer for 2 "free" weeks after first month is a joke now. I've practically used up 2 "free" weeks just waiting for these dvds.
What would it matter how great their selection is if you're left in limbo for weeks?? |

I've been with Netflix for about 3 months. Each month, I get less DVDs than the previous month for the past 3 months, VERY CONSISTENLY. Netflix is throttling me. I will NOT be renewing my membership with Netflix and will be switching over to Greencine. |

I tried out the two week trial on this site and have to say it wasn't bad.
They have a good array of internation titles from various regions.
On the bad side, shipping was 3-4 days and it's one of the more expensive rental-by-mail sites on the web.
Overall I'd say this site won't really interest people who just want to rent the summer blockbusters, but if there's an obscure japanese horror film you're interested, this site may not be a bad choice. |

Nicheflix offers an eclectic mix of movies. The main focus is on DVD's from other regions that are either not available in the US or that feature better features (16x9 or DTS) than the R1 release. In the 3 months I have used them, I have found the service to be on par with Netflix, which I had for over a year. I average 10 to 15 rentals a month, depending on how fast I send them back in. |
