eHit Asian Review

eHit.com is a dvd rental service that is catered to Americans with an interest in the best that Asian cinema has to offer. The site provides dvd rentals for the Chinese, Korean and Japanese aswell as Hollywood blockbusters. The site is well laid out and easy to browse with dvd's shipping from Sunnyvale, California.

Pricing for their various 'unlimited' plans appears attractive. Remember that in order to play some of the Asian releases you will need a multi-region player.

eHit Asian Customer Reviews
aj from San Francisco on 2008-10-30 Rates them:
I am so disgusted with the lack of customer service at ehit. Trying to retrieve a password the past 2 weeks has been an exercise in total futility: no response to emails, phone calls are cut off, and no reply to written notes. I wonder how I'll be able to cancel since I can't even log on.
ys from dallas, tx on 2008-06-11 Rates them:
I have joined/rejoined on and off for the past 3 yrs?, but for the past yr, they have drastically reduced the number of new movie selections (for korean movies, at least). Besides that, the more recent dvds have had horrible english subtitles (bootlegs from HK/china i guess). I agree the quality in their movies and service have gone down so I haven't rented from them this entire year.
Yoshi from Texas on 2008-05-24 Rates them:
From my experience, eHit is not as bad as some people are saying. I've been a member for 5 months now. However, they are not perfect.

The most important thing that I must mention to anyone reading this is that they raised my membership fee without telling me. I have the 2 DVD plan and they raised it $1 without giving me notice. I checked my e-mail, including my spam folders, and no e-mail at all about this change. Isn't this against the law?

Anyway, I did not complain because it's only a $1 and I know the United States postal service just raised their rates this month. I did notice the 4 DVD plan went up $4 recently according to the site. I really hope eHit notified those members who have the 4 DVD plan before charging their credit cards! At least they should put a notice in the member area of the web site.

Normally, my DVDs will arrive within 2 or 3 days, depending on how the USPS is feeling, I guess. It mostly takes 3 days though.

One thing I don't like about eHit is that DVDs must be shipped in pairs of two (they did this to save on shipping costs probably). So if you have the 2 DVD plan, it is annoying because you have to watch both movies before sending them back to get your new movies. If you have the 4 DVD plan, then it probably isn't that bad as you can keep two at home while you ship two back.

ehit has an advanced return feature where you can report your movie shipped back to them when you put them in the mail box and they will ship you your new movies before your old movies arrive at their building. If they didn't have this feature, I would not recommend this site at its current prices.

The good thing about eHit is that they have a large selection of Asian movies and TV shows. And there are adult movies too. However, brand new movies which have just came out on DVD will be difficult to get within the first few months of release. This has not been a problem though as I'm a patient man.

Some of eHit's DVDs have very poor English subtitles which do not make any sense at all. Luckily the very large majority of them have good English subtitles. You can tell if the movie has bad subtitles by reading the member reviews of the movie. eHit doesn't seem to censor reviews, so people are feel to tell others if a movie has bad subtitles.

If you some how missed it, a lot of eHit's DVDs are region 3. Before you run out and buy some crappy no-name all-region DVD player, your existing DVD player might be able to play all DVD regions! I bought a Philips DVD player from Best Buy and it could only region 1 and all-region discs out of the box. But I Googled my model number and found a simple code that you push on your remote to make it play any DVD no matter the region. This code wasn't in the instruction manual, but it still worked and you only have to enter it in one time.

All in all, eHit has been good to me and I plan on staying a member for a long time. I recommend everyone who has an interest in Asian movies at least try out their free trial and become a member for at least one month. If you downgrade to the 2 DVD plan before the trial ends and you end up not liking them, you will only be out $15.
Bao from Oregon on 2008-05-02 Rates them:
I'm a big Shaw Bros. fan, that's why I joined Ehit. But about 2 months later I canceled my account because their quality service is horrible!!! They accused me of returning the wrong dvds then later they found out that it was a mistake on their end; then what broke the camel's back is that I haven't received any dvds for at least 7 business days.
Rick from California on 2008-04-30 Rates them:
One of the best places online to rent Asian DVDs. Unfortunately after more than 3 years with them, I have finally cancelled my account. During the initial trial, the dvd shipments was extremely fast. I get 1-2 days turnaround time. Shipping gets slower as time progresses and new additions to their library aren't happening as frequently. At the rate of $19.95+tax, you'll get about 16 movies a month (4 per week) which was quite reasonable since they still need to make a profit to stay in business. What finally made me cancel membership today was their rate increase without proper notification. I had to see the charges on my CC activity and called eHit to inquire about it. Only then they apologize for not notifying. I think a little e-mail and a note inside of the mailer for the movies would've help. But since I didn't get notified properly and the price increase of $5 more per month with declining service finally ended my relationship with eHit.
FL from CA on 2008-03-10 Rates them:
Point system is the only reason I joined ehit. Their payment web site is really bad. When your credit card expires you get an annoying weekly email indicating you are on their collection list even if you are only on their point rental system. When you try to add more points the web site forces you to joined the monthly rental plan. Customer service is slow...takes them about 3-5 days to answer your email... occasionally they don't answer at all. If you can live with those deficiencies then eHIt is tolerable with the point rental system. Do not join their monthly plan as there are not enough selections available for you to watch 4 movies every month.
Julie from Austin on 2008-03-05 Rates them:
I agree with their Customer service is very slow, I end up calling them by searching the business phone online. But I do like their Points rental, I don't have the pressure to have to watch dvd every month. I don't think there's any online asian dvd rental out there that do that.
Yang from Wisconsin on 2008-03-01 Rates them:
First time trying ehit.com and the dvd's are dirty and most dose not work due to scratch-cracks!
Alex from Kansas City, KS on 2008-02-16 Rates them:
Well to be honest, if you live in California this service would be great, but for the citizens of all the other 49 states stay away. The only reason I joined ehit was because netflix did not have the chinese movies I wanted.
The first problem is the availability of movies. I will probably have like twenty movies in my rental queue and to be honest throughout the month I will only be able to see about 8 movies for 20 bucks. With netflix I spend 18 bucks and receive about two to three movies a week.
Second is the shipping. Living in Kansas I have to wait at least two days after my expected arrival date to receive my movies. Sometimes I have to wait even longer. Especially if the arrival date is on a saturday. I normally have to wait until Monday to receive my DVDs. This is strategic for them considering they have more time to delay the shipment of my other DVDs. I never have this problem with netflix
Honestly if ehit cannot cater to its customers then it should get out of the DVD rental service.
People out there should avoid this DVD service as I have had many problems with them and regret joining their service
imani k. from CA on 2007-12-27 Rates them:
I've belonged with Ehit for several years now. I have no problem with delivery. It usually takes a couple of days after mailing to receive next double set of movies. Extremely happy with this company. The problem is limited selection. I rent a lot of Asian movies and they have a good selection of these however. I live about an hour's drive from Sunnyvale.
Ivan from CA on 2007-10-04 Rates them:
Seems like those who are offering high rating are either: affiliates with the company or posted couple years ago or there is no other choice. So if you are living in the present, be aware that you will most likely be disappointed by their services. Seems like they are playing trick with the customers- don't expect to receive movies high in your queue unless it's been there for a month if not more. They are trying to satisfy (minimally) all their customers with their very limited stocks. There have been 2 weeks in a month I did not receve any movie at all even I have chosen 6-7 titles on my queue.

you may want to reconsider them ONLY when you've seen positive review in the MODERN TIME.
Lingyi from Honolulu, Hawaii on 2007-09-26 Rates them:
Been a member July and so far (*knocks wood*) have had good service.

Movies to / from Hawaii take about a week (5-6 days) turnaround. Not bad considering I'm in the middle of the Pacific! I'm guessing the real test will be once the holidays start and mail gets backed up.

I purposely stay away from the new releases and concentrate on the older stuff so I don't have a problem getting new (to me at least ) movies.

I view eHit as a niche rental service. I'm a member for stuff that I likely couldn't find in my local video stores and since I'm concentrating on the older movies first, by the time I get around to requesting the newer releases, they'll be in less demand.
Kevin from CA on 2007-09-25 Rates them:
I had a really bad experience from this company. Joined to rent a couple of asian movies and the same ones that I had joined to rent have been in my queue for over a month. Customer service is slow and of no help.
Dave from St Louis on 2007-09-12 Rates them:
I suspect eHit regulates (trotting)the amount of DVD one received by claiming that they didn't receive your return at least 6 days after you mail it out. Thus you can't invoke the early return flag. Also most of their DVD these days are region 3. However nothing is worst than stocking only discountbudget dvdvcd.
Rick from Seattle on 2007-06-18 Rates them:
Slow shipping. Takes anywhere between 3-7 days to receive movies that they claimed they had shipped. Compare to Blockbuster online, I got three times as much movies in a month than ehit.com. I wrote a complaint to their customer service. They didn't even response to my e-mail. They won't let you report that you didn't receive the movie they shipped at least 7 days after their shipped date. And they shipped two moives in one envelope. That's mean if anything went wrong (lost on mail), you won't receive your re-ship at least 10-12 days. Bottom line is, this company try to ship you as less movies as possible each month.
DanKin from California - San Jose on 2007-05-21 Rates them:
Pro - Many Asian movie selection.

Con- Very limited supplies of movie. Long waiting for new movies. Customer service is not helpful.

You only get good service at the 10 days trial period, after that cancel the service ASAP.
Sean from San Jose, CA on 2007-05-16 Rates them:
I was a member for 4 months. Although the shipping and receiving is a little slow, but I can live with it. However, my last two months was horrible. None of my new movies selection was shipped. I guess they decided to ship to new movie to the new member as was I for the first two months. In summary, when Ehits classified you as a new member, you are well treated. Once they changed your status to old, you are nothing but dirt.

My recommendation...join for two months..get as much as you can and then cancel.

Peace out.
Dave from St Louis on 2007-04-18 Rates them:
Their availability indicator is a joke. By the time you put the DVD in queue, 50% chance will become unavailable. The 'advanced return' button is fraudulent since it will reverse DVD status from 'received' to 'unreceived' just to control the number of DVDs that they want to send out. Apart from their core Chinese selection, English & foreign language as well as adult selections are few and limited to discount/budget titles. I suggest them to raise their monthly fee and at the same time give customers DECENT service.
lostinlodos from Chicago on 2007-04-12 Rates them:
The Good:
The speciality of the selection guarantees that the movies you get are proper in original language. NetFlix and Blockbuster BOTH have discs mislabelled on their website. With eHit you know what your getting before it arrives. I live in Chicago and get DVDs from New York. It takes 5 to 10 days or so to get them, but they send my new ones for me as soon as I tell them I put the old ones in the mail. The advanced shipping option is beautiful.
For people who enjoy Asian movies, eHit has the BEST selection available.
The Bad:
The service is slow. To respond to the complaints that the movies you want are out of stock, that's because this is a very small company with very small invintory. If you want a specialized service like eHit, deal with what is involved. I have 99 movies in my queue, the first 50 or so are rented out to other people. That's fine, I'll watch what is available now.
Final thought: I've been a member for 3 months, I'll be a member for life, or till they run out of movies to send me.
harry from California, San Francisco on 2007-04-04 Rates them:
Terrible, terrible, terrible. This company is totally a joke. I join the ehit for around one and half months. When I was in the trial period, the move arrive pretty quick. After the trial period over, the horrible nightmare is coming. The DVD tooks forever to arrive, each shipment took around a week to 10 days. I am living San Francisco, which is very close to the Ehit(Sunnyvale).
For the new movie, they are sitting on the waiting list forever, even the movie shows available, they probelly will ship those movie to the new customer first.
Don't expect they have any customer support at all. they don't reply email, live chat is hopeless.
Natalie from San Francisco on 2007-03-22 Rates them:
It's terrible! During the free trial, you get all the movies you selected to be send out immediately. Then if you log on to your account to keep track of the shipment, you will notice only take 1 day to get the next 2 DVD from the day they were shipped out. Well, I guess I live in San Francisco which isn't far from Sunnyvale which makes a difference. Then after my trial period, I agreed totally with Ethan, Frank and Henry because I'm experiencing the exactly the same thing!! I logon to my ehit account a few times a week purposely to see when will my rental queue list become available so I would expect 2 DVD movies will be able to ship out that day. Hahaha...guess what, for a few hours I logon 3-4 times noticed 6 out of 10 movies on my list were available so I was expecting to have 4 movies send to me that day since I'm on 4 DVDs plan. So, by the end of the day I logon again, those movies on my rental queue all in waiting status. So, now I have no movies to watch and no movies ship to me. Why? I don't know?! How much longer do I have to wait to get my next 4 DVDs?
Ethan from US on 2007-03-04 Rates them:
This is the worst online video rental I have ever joined. Please save your money and go somewhere else. You can never get a hold of anyone there. There is no phone number to call anyone there. The live-chat room has no one to chat with. The dvd's take forever to get to your house. I just joined EHIT two weeks ago. In my first shipment, I only received two DVD's instead of four. The other two never showed up. I have to report them as lost in the mail after three weeks.

When I e-mail them and complain about not receiving my movies in the mail, they stop e-mailing me back.

Monica from Sunnyvale, California on 2007-01-02 Rates them:
I'm located in Sunnyvale, California which is where Ehit is located and it STILL takes a week for me to get 2 dvds. It seems like they don't want send out more than 4 in a week - they'll lose money.

Also most of their movies are Region 3 unlike other sites that will offer more all region code dvds. I think they do this to encourage members to buy the all region players from them.

The selection is good but, you'll have to wait a while for a new release... they don't buy enough.

They sell previewed dvds for $5 and $6 bucks which is really good - I'm glad they do this. It's a lot cheaper than buying elsewhere.
Henry from Los Angeles on 2006-07-17 Rates them:
In the past 2 months, I have only recieved 1 movie in my Top 10 rental queue. I only get movies lower in my list. My question is I plan to cancel my subscription - is there a phone I can call to talk to a live person? When I try emailing them, I only get a response once out of every 3 emails. Help!
Peter from Texas on 2006-03-19 Rates them:
While ehit.com does have the most diverse selection of Asian DVDs in the US, the service is questionable. They have very limited supplies of movies, and for newer releases you will probably have to be waiting at least a month or two. Not onces have I ever recieves a newly recieved video within the first few months that the DVD came out. Cancellation with ehit is also a pain in the ass. You cannot cancel online, you have to call them and wait for GOd knows how long.
Nancy L. from Phoenix, AZ on 2006-02-22 Rates them:
I just came off the 10-day free trial, and the delivery has slowed considerably with the pay account. DVDs now take close to a week to arrive. And yes, they only ship 1 new title per shipment. No matter that my queue showed more new releases are available. A live person, instead of the computer, must be picking and choosing what get shipped out.

Overall, it is O.K. rental outfit. Not great, not bad either.
Frank from CA on 2006-01-17 Rates them:
I agree with Leon from GA. I find that their DVD are always out of stock and when I complain they stop mailing me dvd. I guess they expect me to cancel my membership. they will only send out 1 new release + 1 older release. If you only have new release in your queue, good luck...
Tom from NEW YORK on 2005-12-15 Rates them:
They have the largest asian films selection in North America, shipping time is not a big problem since I use their special fast return feature. I like this site alot since there is no way for me to watch the newest asian films expect buying the copy.
Pete pau from Houston on 2005-11-21 Rates them:
Good selection that is if you are into asian movies. The downside is the new movies are usually 'in waiting' for a long while and shipping to my area is 4 to 5 days.
Leon from GA on 2005-10-28 Rates them:
sincere customer service, competent shipping I believe. . except I'm on the east coast and shipping takes forever. If I lived in Calif, I'm sure this would be a fine deal. Also, at times the newest titles will be continuously out of stock .. so you may be scraping at the bottom of your wish list to get movies.
Lance from California on 2005-08-24 Rates them:
Super fast shipments and I get two new DVDs every few days. Since I live in the Bay Area, usually the DVDs arrive to me in 1-2 days, and then get returned usually within a day. Easy to use system, but I think their search engine could be better. Also, it doesn't seem like they have many copies of movies, since some have been on my list for a month and I still haven't received them. Sometimes it's due to bad timing (I have four movies out total when they're back in stock), but not bad overall.
khuong from az on 2005-08-21 Rates them:
shipping a little slow 4 days to get here, even when i live in AZ and they ship from CA. Well but they have that feature that allow you to report after four days like blockbusteroline( but only 3 days).

well and in 10 days free trial i'm able to watch 8 dvds not bad. so a month total of 24 not bad

but get this you will pay 19.95 i think but you don't have to pay for sale tax if you not living in CA that's cool. oh and $19.95/month is for 4 out at a time!! not bad huh?

but the draw back is most of the dvds they have are asian dvds. they have some US dvds but not a lot like netflix or blockbusteronline.

well for me i'm asian, so i have no problem with the dvds they have, and the price is reasonable for 4 out at a time.

shipping kind of slow took 3 days, but you live along the west coast then you will be able to enjoy the full benefit of the membership.
